RELATIONS WITH OUR HOST FAMILIES

Our host family was not very large, an old woman, actually. She was very nice, kind and sweet. Her was Sheila who she let us do whatever we wanted. We also met the rest of her family during our stay.

Anyway, just before meeting Sheila we were a little bit excited, but on meeting her, we immediately felt better because we realised she was a very easygoing and sensitive woman.

Al considered then, we have enjoyed the experience very much and we feel we have improved our English, as well.

Mariana, Rosella and Martina

Our family was very nice. It was not very large: two teenagers, Tan and Joe, their parents, Mary and Malcom. To round it, there was a dog, Hally.

We lived in a big detached house in Walnut Road and our rooms were comfortable. Two of us slept together in a room and the other guy in another one next to ours. We could easily reach the town centre and the school was quite near, too.

Everyone was kind and friendly and Mary was a superb cook!

Francesco, Stefano, Antonio

Phil, the father, Anne, Phil’s daughter and Emilia, Phil’s grand-daughter were the other people in our English family in Torquay.

They were very kind, nice, sweet and they let us do anything we wanted. Phil was very kind to us and he took us to school on the very first day; he was able to cook very well and made nice meals every day. Emilia was just eight weeks. She was supposed to be nice, but she cried all the nights. When we met Phil on the day we arrived in Torquay, we were a bit embarrassed, but when we started speaking, we felt better straightaway.

Nicola, Donato

In our family there were Giuly, two dogs and a sick cat. The house was like a submarine: small and low. Giuly was very kind and also good at cooking. We had a nice time with her.

Clemente, Stefano

Our hosts were two very kind women. They lived in Ellacombe, in a small house in Church Road,. Our room was a bit small but very comfortable, clean; there was a bath and parquet on the floor. The ladies cooked very well and they were very nice, as well. We were lucky because the school and the city centre were quite close to our house. They also gave us their front-door keys, so we could come back home any time we wanted to. They were friendly and they made us feel at home.

Mariangela, Chiara

In our host family there were three people: Shirley, Richard and their 21-year old son: Richard Junior. Shirley was very nice towards us: every morning she woke up us at 7.00 o’clock to make us a typical continental breakfast( toast, milk or coffee with cereals and orange juice). She was 45 and she was a sort of manager in a factory. She worked all day till 5 o’clock; at 6.30 pm she prepared dinner for us. She always tried to cook typical Italian food, making her best but she wasn’t so good, actually. About Richard, we didn’t get to know him very well; he wasn’t very talkative, but when he spoke, we couldn’t understand him because he had a very strong Scottish accent. All in all, we were happy to stay with this family; they tried to make our lives comfortable in every way and they were successful.
